Acer AOD250-1584 10.1-Inch Blue Netbook - Up to 9 Hours of Battery Life (Windows 7 Starter)br /I really love this netbook. There were 3 features I was looking for in a netbook. br /Feature one: 9 hour battery lifebr /Feature two: 250GB Hard drivebr /Feature Three: Bluetoothbr /My mom had purchased a Hewlett Packard 1030NR netbook with a 16GB flash drive, 1GB RAM, no Bluetooth, and a 3 hour battery. This netbook is ok for just office documents but I wanted more. I was replacing my old laptop computer so I wanted a netbook with a lot more horse power. I wanted a fully feature netbook at a reasonable price when I look at Hewlett Packard they wanted around 0.00. That was just outside of my budget than I saw the Acer AOD250-1584 it had all of the features I wanted and I just ordered a 2GB RAM upgrade because I do a lot of photography and the 250GB hard drive helps. When I was working as an Electrical Engineer money was not a problem but I am in a tight economy so I went with the Acer. Although netbooks do not come with a DVD drive it was not that important when doing photography and video I use 8GB to 32GB SDHC cards instead of a DVD drive. I can still watch movies from my 32GB SDHC cards when traveling on a train or plane. On my desktop I take DVD movies and dump them to a 32GB SDHC cards for my netbook.br /The LED back light screen is very even in sunlight. The keyboard is small for my big hands but I adjusted to it. When I install MS Office and other programs I took it out for a Wi-Fi test drive at McDonalds, Starbucks, Culvers, and a local coffee shop it works great. I sent out some resumes and cover letters on my email and other employers wanted them faxed so I used my cell phone to fax out my resumes and cover letters. Then I got conformation faxes sent out but the cell phone gets very hot when sending out faxes on it. I did this using the fax program on Windows 7. I have not used the Bluetooth yet I had a spare MS wireless mini mouse I had. I will get a Bluetooth mouse soon because this will free up one of my USB ports.br /Then I realized Windows 7 has a VPN Client so I tried login on to my VPN router it would not login then I realized it's a very old VPN Linksys router BEFVP41 vintage year 2002. The Linksys firmware is simply too old for Windows 7 but it works great with Windows XP Pro. I will be upgrading this router soon with a Linksys RV016 VPN router. Then I know I will be able to login to my VPN network with Windows 7. VPN networking is very important to me. When I am out in the field far away from home I like to send my photographs directly to my network drive on my home network and some printing at home too. I have VPN networking with other relatives so I can send out hour long videos of birthday parties directly to other relative's computers in complete privacy.br /All in all after using the Acer AOD250-1584 netbook for just over a month yes I would still bye this netbook. I would suggest going with the 2GB memory upgrade right away. When you are doing serious work that extra memory helps. There is a 9 cell battery available for this netbook will be looking into this a 15 hour battery sound great in natural disaster with no electricity. br /Thank youbr /Philliegbr /

I love this little notebook. It fits practically anywhere. If you are looking for a high processing laptop this is not for you. My one complaint is the screen resolution when viewing webpages but overall its a great little notebook.

I like it as a second computer and bought it as such. It's for travel and carrying around the house. We also use it as a second kindle when more than one person wants to read something from the Kindle collection. br /br /The memory upgrade to 2 Gigs is essential; otherwise its slowness is irritating. Without the extra memory, a Skype call to the grandchildren broke up often. I used it on a commuter train to listen to talk radio (with earphones, so as not to disturb other passengers) and that worked well.br /br /The screen is too small for heavy duty spreadsheet use, although that application works, of course. The battery life is close to but less than the 8 hours advertised, but that's not a problem, at least for me.br /br /I knew it's limitations when I bought it, but I bought it purely for it's portability. I am very happy with it and would recommend it and buy it a gain in similar circumstances.

I bought this computer back in Feb 2010 and it has worked over and above my expectations. I got it so I could take it with me on trips and not have to bogged down with a larger Laptop. It does everything I want to and connections to the internet are flawless. I would say to anyone who is looking to get something a little more smaller than a larger unit get this one and you wont be disappointed.. I upgraded to the full version of windows 7 Home Premium without a problem.. I also added the 2gigs of memory it recognized it without so much as a hiccup..

When netbook came out a few years ago I thought it was boloney. After years of lugging a 15" and 13" laptop around, my shoulder got tired. I really don't do heavy 3d application when I am out or at a coffee shop, so the internet surfing and email checking netbook fits the bill. I was torn between paying for a iPad or the cheapest netbook that could actually stream video on the go.br /br /Specs/ performance:br /Ok it takes a while to get use to the small keypad, the keypad was much stiffer then my Lenovo ThinkPad or older Sony's Vaio. The web browser is a tad slower, but not by much. The iPad had lagging issues if you stream a 480p, I found the Gateway to be a little choppy, but it doesn't stop and lag likes the iPad. I have no issues with any pages since it is a pc that can do flash. I am get 6-7mb download, so it is not the connection speed, but the graphic or ram problem on this netbook. The atom N450 is good, but it is not a dual core, multi-tasking will be sluggish on here. I could not do a Norton anti-virus scan with installing a driver in the background. I had to stop one program and the other one started to work. Granted you can run multiple small programs in the background fine. The sound quality if you plug in your headphone is not as good, but fine. Also the speakers are loud enough for streaming movies and much louder than the iPad. Window 7 starter is a bare bone, but workable system. Funny there is no way to change the background picture without a work around. It is also only 32bit system. They say 8hr, but I get like 5hr with wifi on all the time. The keypada was harder or less responsive then the thinkpad and logitect on my computer.br /br /Design/ configurationsbr /This one of the cheapest netbook with the newer Atom N450 core. Since I got this at Frys for 279 the price is fair. Gateway netbook with 250gb and n draft is 329 similar to Dell and Asus's netbook with the same configuration. I would believe 90 more gb and n draft is worth the 30 dollar upgrade over this model. The layout is almost identical to other netbook, making me believe they were made from the same plant somewhere in China. But I got to say Gateway looks is the most eye-catching and why I pick this other the other brands. I prefer the eraser-head mouse, but only the pricier Lenovo has that option. The shiny screen is very bright and vivid, so there is no complaint.br /br /Since this is my first netbook I find it a little slow and crap, but it works much better than I expected from other earlier netbooks I played with. Sadly the overprice iPad, which I prefer, is no competition to a cheaper netbook with all the PC features you can add to it. I am going to max out the ram when I find the right type. br /

Although we have a desk top computer I need the netbook to be more efficent and maximize my time. I took my netbook with me last night to a conference and the ability to take notes instantly without first writing them down and then transfering them through data entry is priceless. I am able to work while I am at wrestling practice or basketball practice. I am able to pull something up during meetings. The battery life is exceptional. I wouuld surely purchase this netbook again!

This notebook is portable and does everything my bigger laptop does. I attend school and taking this light-weight laptop to school with me is so much easier to carry and I don't lose any options that my bigger laptop has. This smaller laptop has not disappointed me at all. Its fast and the battery lasts a lot longer than my larger laptop does, which is another great feature.

I was a little weary of these netbooks for quite awhile. But I am always on the go and needed something light and portable. When I did my research I found alot of horror stories about different products. I thought I was going to get a Dell since that was my favorite laptop. But bad reviews quickly drove me in another direction. The reviews for the 1000he were very good, even better than the newer Asus netbooks. Probably because they are trying to push that Windows 7 on all new netbooks. I think XP is the best and I will stick with it for as long as possible.br /The EEE 1000he has performed better than expected and I couldn't be happier. I upgraded the memory to 2 gigs and put a 16 gig sdhc card in for all my pics, music and files which is plenty of memory. It runs like a laptop and performs excellent. I have had it for a month now using it everyday all day and I have had no problems what so ever. I deleted the Windows office/student trial offer and downloaded my own office software and everything runs smooth as a whistle.br /I highly reccomend this netbook.

Good machine -- loosy Seagate Drive in it - Dr.GUI, MSDN, retired - Seattle, WA
I got this right after it was released and it has been a gem. Upgraded to 2GB, Windows 7 Ultimate etc with no problem. Unfortunately the hard drive packed it in at the end of the warranty period (it's a seagate Momentus 5400.5) without any warning (no SMART alert). Unit was in leather case and was not dropped. This year, all of the failed drives I've seen has been Seagates... starting to make me a WD fan.br /br /Tried the RMA root via telephone -- but after several disconnects I gave up. Doing a RMA to replace a retail drive and being without the netbook for several weeks just does not make my day, so I opted for a faster bigger WD drive off Amazon so I will be back in service in 2 days. This is my first portable drive failure in 8 years (always gentle with them).br /br /With the right attachment (like vantec adapters), it's easy to mirror the internal drive to an external 2.5 sata for quick recovery when/if a hard drive fail.br /br /If you cannot afford being without for 2-6 weeks doing the RMA thing, consider being proactive.br /br /

I've owned this netbook since October 2009 and love it more each day! I bought it so that I have something dependable and lightweight to carry with me everywhere. It more than fills the bill. I use it to create and edit blog posts on Blogger, read and post on Facebook and Twitter, read my webmail, compose and share documents on Google Docs and temporarily store photos while I am working remotely.br /br /Three strongest features: the long battery life, the non-glare screen and the fastest available netbook processor. For some reason, the newer models don't all have these features. While there are newer models, I highly recommend this one.

When I first got this laptop, is was appalled at the setup time. Then, I was upset at how slow it ran. But, for some reason, ASUS decided to include a whole bunch of unnecessary junk. For instance, they included DVD player software, for a laptop that has no optical drive. Now, I know that they are paid by the software developers to include versions of software on their computers, but this case is a little bit excessive. So, I installed Ubutnu from a USB thumb drive (you can pick these up for next to nothing, and downloading Ubutnu is free and legal) and I finally had a laptop that preformed well enough to actually surf the web/edit text documents/etc. If you're interested, you can find instructions for installing Ubutnu at [...] *note:these instructions are probably not for beginning users. if you are somewhat familiar with Windows, and you have another computer to follow along with or you can print the instructions out, you should be fine. If you are not all that comfortable with computers, DO NOT ATTEMPT TO FOLLOW THESE DIRECTIONS as you can cause your laptop to stop working, in which case you would have to pay a computer repair tech to fix the problems.

Pretty bad experience - Guy Farber - San Francisco, CA
I had pretty low expectations but using this netbook was much worse than I thought. The main issue here is the system keeps stalling and cannot present even simple Youtube videos without getting stuck constantly. Even remove all memory resident apps, including anti-virus and using the Google Chrome didn't get it to reasonable working condition. Also the keyboard and touch pad are the worst I have ever seen.br /br /Stay away. Spend 100$ more for a real low-end laptop and you won't regret it.

I absolutely love the portability of the netbook. I can carry it in my purse! However, once I get to Starbucks and sit down to do something as simple as go on facebook, if I open more than one window it will take forever to load. Sometimes there are messages about the virtual memory that cause internet explorer to shut down. I wish this product had more power and capability when it comes to browsing the web, considering that's what netbooks are made for..
